This is one of the most notorious snakes on the continent. And also happens to be the snake we love the most here at Kleinplasie Reptile Park. We love them so much that we have included them into our daily snake shows to teach you more about these incredible snakes.
Black Mambas get their name not from their skin, which ranges from a gunmetal grey sometimes with a slight brown tinge, but from the inside of it’s mouth which it shows when threatened.
This snake gets it’s name from the loud puffing sound it makes. These snakes are ambush predators and it is common for people hiking in mountainous areas to come across them. They lay on or near a path waiting for rats or mice to run past, when people aproach they do not move, but let you know they are there by exhaling very loudly and so making a ‘puffing’ noise.
Their venom is cytotoxic which destroys tissue and bites from this animal are extremely painful.
This large python can reach lengths of up to 9 meters. These pythons get their name from their reticulated (net like) markings. Egg clutches can contain over 100 eggs. Predominantly ambush predators they feed on a variety of prey from rodents to bush pigs.
The reticulated python in know to be the longest snake in the world and the only snake capable of eating a grown man. Hundreds of thousands are killed for the skin trade each year. Capable of reaching lengths of 7-9m.
